Assistance from the Ambient Intelligence

The purpose of AI is to augment human intelligence and to augment human capability.

— Ginni Rometty

Ambient Intelligence (AmI) represents a digital environment that is attuned to and responsive to human presence, integrating technologies like sensors, IoT devices, and AI into everyday settings. This concept focuses on context awareness, personalization, and anticipating user needs, aiming to create a seamless, ubiquitous computing experience with natural user interfaces. It’s about making technology intuitive and invisible within environments, enhancing comfort, efficiency, and safety in applications such as smart homes, healthcare, and smart cities.

Project 1:

The research project explored the application of Ambient Intelligence in smart buildings for cognitively declined occupants. The team reviewed existing technologies and identified gaps in current applications, focusing on how Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) and IoT-enabled smart buildings can enhance the independence and quality of life for these individuals. We proposed a conceptual framework for future research in this area, addressing challenges such as usability, ethical concerns, system comprehensiveness, and the necessity for human-in-the-loop systems. The goal was to augment the capabilities of cognitively declined individuals, providing them more autonomy in their daily lives.
